We Knew They Wouldn’t Like It…

In case you didn’t know, we did a series at XL about a month ago called “Let’s Talk About Sex”. It was a great series in which we addressed some issues about sexual morality that most churches are not willing to address. The most amazing part is that we are still getting calls from other churches complaining about our billboard. They don’t call and say, “How many people gave up an addiction to pornography and finally started living for the Lord?” They call and say, “I’m offended because you put the word ‘Sex’ on a billboard”. Last December, we did a series called “Pimp My Ride”. We did it just like the show and actually picked a guys car from our community and pimped it out completely. It was awesome and it made a huge impact on a number of people that were there to see it. Boy, you should have heard the calls from the community and other churches about that billboard. Unbelievable!!! We even had the newspaper using their own cartoons to make fun of us. That, however, was some of the best publicity we got.

James and I went to a conference about a year ago at Mountain Lake Church. One of the speakers was Bill Cornelius from Bay Area Fellowship in Corpus Christie, Texas. He told us that day that if we were going to do something to reach the unchurched people in our community, the other churches would not like it. Well, here we are.

I just want you to hear something from me. As the Lead Pastor of XL, we are about one thing. We are going to connect “unchurched” people to the God that created them. We are going to reach young men and their families that do not want to go to church anywhere. And, I promise you this: we will do whatever it takes to reach those people, whether we are liked or not.

So, keep checking in on what we’re doing at XL. If you haven’t been offended yet, give it time. I’m sure we’ll get to you soon enough.

Weekly Brag

Posted on March 29, 2007 | Filed Under XL Volunteers

I decided, since we have such an awesome team working out at XL each week, I’ll just take one day a week and brag on some of them. So, tonight, we’ll cover the coffee bar. I gotta tell you about Brian and Nichole Crick and their team. AMAZING!!! These people can make a slushie like nobody’s business. Our coffee bar area is one of the major areas where we want our guests to feel at home. This whole team completely believes in the XL vision and works very hard to make everyone feel welcome. I truly believe that everyone that comes into their area knows that they are cared for. That’s the whole point. Thanks to Brian, Nichole and the whole team for their servant hearts and their willingness to do whatever it takes to make people feel at home.

Ok, I’ll go back to bragging on our team after while. However, you have got to check out the new blog page of Gina Scurlock. Gina is on staff at XL and is awesome. The site is at www.flossyg.wordpress.com. I am, however, really looking forward to reading her blog. I’m looking forward learning tons of personal stuff about Kris. He is the ultimate “Chuck Norris” joke man. They are both amazing. Go check it out. She’ll have some really cool stuff to tell us.

More Bragging…

Just so you know, there are a ton of people that make XL run smoothly, or close to it, every week.  However, two of them are very rarely noticed.  Wes Taylor and Chris Holland are the guys that keep the building up and running.  I got to XL at 8:15 this morning and Chris was already pulling up to fix an issue we had Sunday night.  I’m sure Wes is already out working on something else.  They NEVER STOP!  These guys are always busy doing the things that no one really notices, but no one else wants to do.  It is a huge blessing to have them on the team.  Trust me, without them, nothing would flush…

Thanks to Wes and Chris for having the heart to serve others behind the scenes so the people can connect with the God that created them.

A Great Team

So, I was talking to my friend Don today from Canada.  He can’t really make the trip to XL every week, but he keeps up with us on line.  He made a very interesting statement to me today.  He was encouraging me with how much he loves XL, even from long distance, and then says “You must really have a great team”.  All I could say is “Yes,  I do!”  He reminded me of how blessed I am to work with the XL Team and all the other great volunteers that God has brought our way.  So, I figured I’d take a couple of days and brag about them.

Our Lead Team is made up of James Wisener, Gina Scurlock, and Jason Alford.  These are three of the most awesome people that I have ever had the priveledge of working with.  They completely get the vision of XL and are commited to making it happen.  I truly believe that God put this team together and has called us to do something really crazy for His Kingdom.  I know without a doubt that I could not do what God calls me to do without them.  Thanks to God for this team.

Keep checking in.  I’ll be bragging on the rest of the team as we go along.
