Sports People – Here you go!
Posted on May 17, 2007 | Filed Under XL
I want to introduce you to a group called ISF, International Sports Federation. They are a group of friends of mine that run a ministry that puts sports teams in just about every country in the world. If you play baseball, golf, soccer, or whatever, they have a spot for you. They also take trainers, water boys like me, and anyone interested in doing ministry through sports. Basically, they learned a long time ago that if you have a soccer ball in your hand, people will listen when you talk about Jesus. Go to their new website, sportsmissions.com, and check them out. If you find something you love, let me know. We’ll get you on the right track.

God does what He says He will do!
Posted on May 16, 2007 | Filed Under XL
On May 8th I posted about building an ark like Noah. One of my points was that God brought the animals to Noah when it was time to enter the ark. What God is doing right now with XL is showing us that HE will put us in the places where we can meet the people. God is so cool. Just in the last few days I have heard incredible ideas and have been given amazing opportunities to meet the people we are trying to reach. It is the truth: God ALWAYS does what He says He will do!

Young Professionals of Rome
Posted on May 16, 2007 | Filed Under Stuff About Rome
I went to my first Young Professionals of Rome meeting last night at the Coosa Valley Country Club here in Rome. This is a great group of people that work together to make sure the Young Professionals of Rome are up to date on what is happening in our city. It is also a great time to have some great food and meet a lot of new people. I know I met two attorneys last night so if I get into trouble I know where to go. Anyway, it’s an event sponsored by my man “The Mick” and the Chamber of Commerce here in Rome. The meeting we lead by a friend of mine named Steven McDowell, the owner of the Old Havana Cigar Bar on Broad Street. He did a super job and it was a good event overall. So, if you’re a young professional in town and would like to meet other people just like you, this might be for you. You can email Steven off of his website or contact Mickey at the Chamber. See ya there.

Props to my Canadian friends
Posted on May 15, 2007 | Filed Under XL
I gotta tell you about my friends from Medicine Hat, Alberta. Their names are Don and Sheila Chartrand. We’ve known them for a few years now and they are truly some of our best friends in the world. I am actually making a trip up there to hang out with them at the end of May. I am so fired up. Don works for a great natural foods company called Nutter’s. They also happen to have loads of candy, which I love. Anyway, Don and Sheila are two of our most loyal internet watchers.  However, Sheila said she wasn’t watching the man series because Don didn’t need any more encouragment to be manly. He’s scary enough already.
Anyway, I wanted you to know who they are. Just because they can’t get here every week, they are a huge part of what we do. When they do finally make the trip one day, make sure you say “Hi”!

Monday Night from the Recliner
Posted on May 15, 2007 | Filed Under Sunday Night Updates
Ok, I try to put out an update every Sunday night once I get home and sit in the good ol’ recliner. However, yesterday was Mother’s Day and I took Tiffany to dinner at Outback (nice ribs) and we got home late. Basically, once I hit the recliner last night I was done. No blogging in me. So, here is the update on Sunday night.
This was our first Mother’s Day service at XL. We celebrated XL with a very funny video right up front. You can see it on our XL website. You’ll love it. Anyway, we had a great night overall. We had some new volunteers working in crucial roles and doing a great job. All of our volunteers really stepped up and got it done this week. And the band, WOW! The whole band did their normally fantastic job, but this time they added Cliff in there to sing What Do You Do by Papa Roach. Man, he stinkin’ blew it away.Â
We also started our new series this week called “LifeSwap”. This message was all about what we should do when our plans for our life don’t work out exactly like we thought they would. God basically says to us, “don’t worry about anything. Just tell me about it and I will give you peace…”. (Phil. 4:6) How cool is that. When life seems to be falling apart around you, don’t worry, just tell God. He can handle it.Â
It was our lowest number of people since we started XL last year. However, God shwed us that He can show up no matter who is there, and that is good to know.
Now for next week, you don’t want to miss it. I’ll just say that Kevin Mitchell wil be back on stage and you know you never want to miss that. I’ll see you then. Have a great week.
