Furtick Quote

Steven Furtick is one of the best preachers you’ll ever hear. He’s doing a series on “Generations” and he’s rockin’. Here’s what he just said: As a group of 40 plus year olds, “What if we refused to let a generation go to hell because we sacrificed their future on the altar of our preferences?” WOW!!!

Things You Don’t Talk About

Posted on March 9, 2008 | Filed Under XL

As you know, at XL we usually tackle some topics that most people won’t talk about. Well, this Sunday will be no different. We are in the middle of a series called God Questions. We have allowed our people to turn in random questions that we will do our best to answer each week. We have had a great time so far in this series and we’re looking forward to some other really cool questions we get to deal with.

So, for this Sunday, we have a very interesting question. Someone turned in the question: “what does the Bible and God say about homosexuality?” Therefore, we will deal with this issue Sunday night. I think that the Bible is very clear on what it says about this subject. What may surprise you is what the Bible has to say about some other things that we don’t usually connect with this topic. Make sure you are there to take a real look at this issue in the eyes of our Creator.

Also, if you have friends or family members that are homosexual, or have to deal with this issue on a regular basis, bring them with you. I think it will be an eye opening night for everyone present. Don’t miss it!

Parental Guidance:
We have asked our parents to make sure no one under the 6th grade is in the main room on that night. We wanted to respect their choice on what they want their children to hear.

Sunday Night Report

What a day!! God really showed up at West Rome and XL today. We had good crowds at both places and I’m really fired up about what all is going on. It is obvious that the enemy is still against what we are doing but that just proves that God has big plans. We are going to continue to tell the truth each week and let God handle the rest.

We have big plans for Easter in both places. At West Rome, I will be sharing a message called “The Real Jesus”. Basically, we are going to run the whole day just for those people that don’t usually come. There are thousands of people that only go to church on Easter and I think they stay that way because nothing is ever different when that come each year. Our goal is for them to come Easter Sunday morning and notice that something is different. The truth is that most of these people have been to church before, and because of the attitude of the church itself, they don’t want any part of that. Well, we’re not gonna settle for that anymore. This year they’ll learn that “The Real Jesus” doesn’t condemn them and doesn’t put them down, but He loves them and has a great plan for them. I’m fired up about being able to tell them that.

At XL for Easter, we are going to answer one of the toughest questions people ask: “Why do bad things happen to good people”. When you really look at what Easter represents, no one is more of an example of bad things happening to good people than Jesus. Hellooooo!!! He did absolutely nothing wrong EVER and they killed Him. How much worse can you get than that?

You need to make sure you bring everyone you know with you to an Easter service somewhere. God wants to change lives that day. Don’t let somebody miss out because you don’t invite them.

Have a great week!

Sunday’ Report

So, this past Sunday I was able to experience something that I have never been a part of. I have been going to church for 39 (almost 40) years now, and I have never seen God do this. As you all know, I am the Interim Pastor of West Rome Baptist Church and I also lead XL. Well, this past Sunday morning, God showed up at West Rome in an unbelievable way. Check this out… when I got up to preach everyone was standing up from the worship time we had been having. We had already had a number of people at the alter praying and seeking God during the worship throug music time, even without any type of alter call. Then, when I got up everyone started to sit down like they always do. I told them to keep standing up because God was not done. I told them that, where I went to school, you didn’t sit down until the game was over, and I didn’t think it was over. They obviously agreed and the vast majority of our congregation stood for the entire rest of the service. I did the first two points of the message God had given me and then had a time for people to come to the alter. The alter was filled with people praying and seeking God in every way possible. It was amazing. Then, I stepped up and did my third point from my message. After that we took up the offering and people started to sit down for this time. As people started to recognize what was happening they began to stand back up. Josh, one of our “front row guys” never sat down. Then all over the room people started to stand back up and were cheering and clapping for God’s presence in the room. We closed it out with a song called “Something Happens” and it’s about all the great things that can happen when we mention the name of Jesus. At the end of that song it was completely quiet in the room of over 800 and no one moved. I literally had to tell them to go home!!! WOW!!! I’ve never seen anything like it, but I do plan to see it again.

Then, that night, we had a great time at XL. We are doing a series right now called “God Questions” and we are answering people’s questions about God, the Bible, life, etc. It was great to hear that God does not hate our tattoos and He really does forgive us when we truly repent of our sin. He is so awesome and I’m so glad He loves us.

There ya go. I’m looking forward to this Sunday to see what all God has planned. I can’t wait!
