Don’t Believe the Lie!

Let me tell you, satan will take any opportunity to tell you that you’re not worthy to have a relationship with Christ. He’ll bring up your past mistakes. He’ll tell you you’re not smart enough. He’ll tell you that Jesus only died for those other people that are “better” than you. Hear this: It is all a lie!!! How do I know he does this? He did it to me all week. He tried to convince me that I wasn’t good enough to lead a church. He tried to get me to believe that I could not accomplish all that God has called me to accomplish. Here are the two REALLY COOL things I learned about all of this today. First, he’s not telling me anything new. I know all of that. I know that, without Christ in me doing it, I can’t do jack for God. I know that there is no way in the world that I could lead a church, or lead my family, or do what God calls me to do, without Jesus. HOWEVER, I’m not trying to do those things without Jesus. I’m doing them with Jesus and He is actually doing them through me. Therefore, I can lead a church and I can do all of the other things God has called me to do, because JESUS can do it all.
The second thing I learned came from studying the life of Peter for the message this morning. If you haven’t studied about Peter, what you learn is that Peter is famous for things like sinking in the water, cutting off a guys ear when he didn’t need to, and denying Christ three times. However, what Peter is also known for is the fact that he got out of the boat and walked on water before he sank. He also cut off the guys ear because he was protecting his Master in the only way he knew how. And, yes, he denied knowing Christ during a very tough time but he was also the disciple that was still there at the end. The best thing that God showed me through the life of Peter is that salvation is for the regular guy. Jesus died for those of us that make mistakes and aren’t perfect. He died for those of us that will jump out of the boat even if we sink sometimes. He died for those guys that, even though they mess stuff up, are always willing to lay it all of the line for Jesus. That’s what I want to be. I’m not looking to be perfect or have all the answers. I’m just looking to get out of the boat everytime He tells me too. I want to drop my fishing gear when Jesus says it’s time to go do something different. And, you know what? I’ll probably mess up a few things on the way. But, I’d rather mess up some stuff trying to live for Jesus than not mess up anything sitting in that boat!
So, don’t believe the lie! Don’t let your enemy tell you you’re not worthy. Don’t let him tell you that you can’t accomplish your goals. Jesus died for YOU!!! And, with His help, you CAN do all that He calls you to do.
Live the truth and let it rock!!!
