Out of the Overflow

I just wanted to update you on what we talked about Sunday if you couldn’t make it. First of all, you can hear all of the West Rome messages online at www.westrome.org. You can also watch all of the XL messages at www.xlwired.com. Sunday morning we talked about all of the people that were giving their lives to Jesus in Acts 2. We wondered why we don’t see that kind of growth happening today in our churches. I believe the main reason we don’t look like the church in Acts 2 is because we’re not talking about Jesus like they were. They truly could not help but teach about the things that “they had seen and heard.” There is also a point about fellowship in that, but that’ll be in next weeks message. Anyway, I believe that it is critical for us to tell the story about Jesus as often as we can to as many people as we can. If you talk to your co-workers every day about Georgia football, they may become Georgia fans. But, they won’t meet Jesus! You have to tell the story of what Jesus has done in your life. The people around you are in your life for a reason. They need to hear YOUR story, not anyone else’s. So, I gave five helpful hints Sunday for how you can talk about Jesus more in your everday life. I’m just going to list them without a lot of discussion. If you need more info, hit the website and listen to the message. It won’t take you too long to get through it.
Helpful hints on how to make Jesus part of your everday conversation:
1. All you need in order to talk about Jesus is Jesus, PERIOD!
It’s not about a process, it’s about Jesus. Just tell people what He means to you.
2. You have been empowered by the Holy Spirit to do the job.
Acts 1:8 proves that.
3. Your past should not hold you back from talking about Jesus in your life today.
The things in your past actually worked to build your story, and there are people that need to hear it.
4. It’s your personal story that makes all the difference.
Yes, the subject is Jesus. However, people in your life are there because God wants to use YOUR story to change them. No other story will work like yours.
5. We are God’s chosen instruments to share His story with a lost world.
You and I are the plan. There is no second option. If we don’t tell, they won’t hear!
So, go tell the story of Jesus in your life this week. One thing we’ve learned through this study: If we’ll talk about Jesus, lives WILL be changed.
Peace,

This week’s big news.
Posted on July 8, 2009 | Filed Under West Rome, XL
Just a reminder to everyone that we have an XBOX Ultimate Fighter tournament this Friday night at XL. I know many of you don’t know what that is, and that’s ok. Just pray that God will use this event to bring in a ton of people that are still looking for a relationship with Him. That’s what it’s all about! We also have a ton of people that have worked very hard to make this thing happen. A HUGE thanks to all of you for all that you’ve done.
This Sunday at XL we’ll start a series called Ultimate Fighter and we’ll deal with some heavy issues related to that topic. Make sure you, and all of your friends, are there.
This week at West Rome we’ll talk about how “Dangerous Christians make a Dangerous Church!” I’m looking forward to it. I think God is ready to do more than we can imagine at both places. Let’s make sure we’re ready when He is.
Is anyone out there hooked on the Tour de France like me? I hate riding a bike and I still can’t turn it off of my tv. I’m sure it will be another late night tonight!
Peace,

Braves Game Review
Posted on July 4, 2009 | Filed Under West Rome, XL
We had a great time at the Rome Braves game last night. We had over 200 people from our church out there and we had a blast. Thanks to all of you that were able to come and be a part of the fun. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves and took the opportunity to meet some new people.
Remember, we’re starting a new series on The Acts of the Church tomorrow morning. Don’t miss it.
Also, there is NO XL tomorrow night. We’ll be back on next week and it will be huge.
Happy 4th of July. Have a great day.

The Acts of the Church
Posted on July 1, 2009 | Filed Under West Rome, XL
Good morning everyone. I want to share with you a little about where we’re headed this Sunday. As you know, it’s the July 4th weekend so we will not be having XL Sunday night, or Sunday night services at West Rome. Go enjoy the evening and meet some people that you can bring with you next week.
I want to encourage you to be here Sunday morning. We are starting a new series called “The Acts of the Church” and I believe God is going to teach us some awesome things. We’ll start this week in Acts 1 and 2 and see what God shows us about the beginning of the church and what our responsibility is today. I think it will challenge us and encourage us at the same time. So, come home from the lake for a couple of hours Sunday morning to be with us.
For those of you going to the Braves game Friday night, we’ll see you then. We’ll probably see most of you in the park on Saturday for the big fireworks show. That should be good and hot!!! Either way, have a safe weekend and we’ll see you all Sunday morning.
