A Sunday Off
Posted on October 13, 2008 | Filed Under Sunday Night Updates, West Rome, XL
Wow, what a day I had on Sunday. It was so refreshing to be able to go to West Rome and XL and just be a part of what was going on. Here are some of the great things that I noticed from the back. First, at West Rome, Chris did a super job of bringing the message. God really spoke through him and he was totally comfortable on the stage. That just means that God is working through him and he did a superb job. And, Cliff, well he just always rocks. It was really great to get to sit in the back one week and watch our people get involved in the worship time. They truly do love the Lord and love to worship Him and Cliff just does a super job of leading them to His throne each week.
Then, at XL, man, Craig did an awesome job. I was so fired up for him. For one thing, it was just a great, high energy night all the way around. The band did great and they set Craig up perfectly. And, Craig just did great. Of course, he had to go and call me out on a couple of things but I’ll let him slide this time.
One of the coolest things I recognized about the day is that, if I was a guest at either West Rome or XL, I would come back. Everyone on staff and all of the greeters just did great work and I love being a part of these places. Tiffany and I did think about what we wanted to do since we were off for the day, but I just couldn’t think of anything better to do than go to church. And, not just any church, but our church. I really did not want to miss what was going to happen at WR or XL. That kind of fires me up.
One other thing I learned: When we build a new building one day, it probably won’t have a balcony. I sat under the balcony Sunday and it’s just hard to engage from back there. Of course, the big column in my way didn’t help, but for some reason, it’s just hard to get a real feel of what’s happening in the room from underneath there.
So, for both XL and West Rome, great job to everyone involved in making both of them happen. God is so using our staff and our volunteers to help people find and follow His plan for their lives. That is what it’s all about and I’m proud to be able to be your Pastor.
God bless you all!

Birthday Surprise: A “Must Blog”
Posted on May 18, 2008 | Filed Under Family, XL
Wow, what a night it has been. As you can tell, I haven’t been blogging all that much lately, but my surprise birthday celebration tonight at XL pretty much requires a blog. It was awesome! It was a total surprise and we had a blast. Tiffany, Gina, Craig, and Jonathan worked really hard to put the party together. Zack and Bob from the Sonic brought me 41 (one to grow on) cheeseburgers. My nephew, Ryan, worked hard to put together a video of my family. Shelly, my sister in law, did the video of my brother and their boys. And, then James Wisener, Courtney Cash, and Sparky came to town for the special night. And, of course, Big Daddy came and spoke a little and THE MICK pretty much ran the whole party. He’s the man!! I truly appreciated everything that everyone said. It was really cool to be a part of it.
So after all that, we got to eat some really cool cakes made by Randy and Erica Todd. Erica is starting her own business and she ROCKS!!! You really need to call her if you need a cake for anything at all. I’ve had a number of them and she ain’t messed it up yet. I know there were probably a ton of other people involved in setting up cake and cleaning all of that up. Thank you so much!
For all the other random gifts and encouraging cards and all that, THANK YOU ALL!! I am blessed to have so many good friends and such a cool ministry to be a part of. I can’t even start to thank God for all that He has blessed Tiffany and me with since we came to Rome. We’re just fired up about being here and being a part of what He has planned. I REALLY look forward to seeing what He has planned for the next 40 years.
So, thanks again to everyone involved and everything you did. You are all awesome and I appreciate all of your effort. Let’s do this again in 10 years!
Peace,

Wow, what an Easter!
Posted on March 24, 2008 | Filed Under West Rome, XL
What a day it was. We started the day with around 1400 people in worship at West Rome, baptised 9, and had a great day of worship there. Then we went to XL and had a great time learning why bad things happen to good people. One of my favorite answers was that some people are just stupid and bad things usually happen to stupid people. You had to be there.
Anyway, people invited people!!! That is the best part of the day. People in both locations worked hard to bring their friends, neighbors, and family members to be with us this Easter. That was AWESOME!!!
And, to all of you that volunteered: Super Duper job. You guys rock. We had people up early and staying late to make sure everything happened so that those that don’t normally come would feel welcomed. You made a difference in God’s Kingdom today and I can’t thank you enough. Now, take a quick break because Sunday’s coming!

Easter Sunday
Posted on March 20, 2008 | Filed Under XL
Ok, I don’t really know if anyone is reading this that doesn’t already go to church somewhere, but if that’s you, YOU REALLY NEED TO BE AT WEST ROME OR XL THIS SUNDAY FOR EASTER!!! And, if you already come but you know someone who doesn’t, you MUST invite them to come with you. The entire day at West Rome is being built in a way to welcome people that don’t normally go there. That’s right! If you’re a long time member, this Sunday is not for you. It’s for you to bring your friends and neighbors so they can hear the message of Jesus Christ in a way that is very relevant to them. You don’t want to waste this opportunity!! Then at XL we’ll be dealing with one of the biggest questions ever asked: Why do bad things happen to good people. WOW!!!! What a day it will be.
Don’t miss a thing!!!
