As I look at all of the volunteers that we have at XL, one of the teams that stays in the background almost all of the time is the Tech Team. The team is made up of some great guys that are willing to go the extra mile to make sure everything in the service runs as smoothly as possible. First, you have Ryan Cleary, of ClearSpan Communications. Ryan is not actually in the booth each week right now, but you have to recognize that, without Ryan’s help, we would not be where we are today. Ryan and his Dad, Ben, were in the building working like crazy before any of us. He has worked many hours at some random times to put our sound and video system together. He has definitely put it out for the ministry and it is much appreciated.

Then you have the guys running the lights. Shaun Aycock does a great job of leading out in this area. He has Zack Huston working with him on a regular basis and they do a great job of making sure everyone can enjoy the service. Trust me, it takes a lot of work with lights to make me look good on stage.

Then there’s Craig Bagwell. Craig has recently become famous for making the leg lamp for the man lounge. In the booth he runs the computer and everything that we see on the screens. He has recruted his brother Jonathan, who then recruted his friend, Matthew, and they all work together to do a super job back there. Jonathan did almost give his life in setting up the stage one day, so we’re thankful that he’s still with us.

Along with these guys you have Neil Conn, who runs the video camera and Tim Raley, who edits/shoots video, and also tells us when our packages come in at UPS, but that’s for a different blog. Anyway, you also have Tony Walker, Andy Allen and Kyle Smith that help in a variety of ways. Our newest addition is Brian Pelfrey and, boy, if he only knew what all is coming his way.

I just want to say a HUGE thank you to each of these guys. Like I said, the always go above and beyond to make for a great service. God really blessed us with so many willing, and qualified, volunteers. Thanks God!

It’s been too long since I spent some time bragging on the best volunteers in the world. So, I’ll just start with the first people you see and go from there. We have a great team of guys that make up our Parking Lot Team. Brent Poplin heads up our team of volunteers and they are awesome!! And, since we park in the back of our building instead of the front, like most normal places in the world, we REALLY need them every week. The team is made up of Brett Winslette, Chris Brumenschenkel, Matt Burnham, John-Mark Miller, David Newman, Shaun Odom, Kris Pyle, Austin Seckinger, Chad Whitefield, Scott Wood, Emanuel Woods, Stephen Martin, and Russell Reid. Man what a great group of guys. You know what fires me up the most. Way more than half of the men in America today wouldn’t step foot in a church on Sunday, and we have this many pumped up about working the parking lot. Boy, God has really blessed us here. A HUGE thanks to you, work in the parking lot even when it’s raining guys. You deserve it!!!

WOW!!! That really rocked! Our band is incredible. Our set up people are just awesome. Our children and preschool workers are top notch. And, it all worked together to make for an awesome night. The first night of the Man Series was just great. The band played some serious rock n roll and I was FIRED UP!!! We also had the “Man Lounge” where two guys got to sit in big comfy chairs and eat pizza during the whole service. The only problem was the they didn’t eat the pizza. Next week we will have to pick some hungrier men.

The coolest part of the night is that men finally started learning that you can be a Christ-follower and still be a man. The challenge is just to be the man that God built you to be. I believe men are tired of being told that they can’t be the man God made them to be and still be a “good Christian”. The way we see it, the very best thing you can do with God is to be exactly who HE made you to be. So, whatever God built you to do, go do it. And, have some stinkin’ fun while you’re at it.

However, the greatest part of our night was the meeting afterward. Gina did her first “Want More” meeting tonight. This meeting was to let people know what it takes to get involved in XL. We had a great number of people come to the meeting and 10 people signed up to help in some area. That is AWESOME!!! God really blessed the night. And, props to Gina for doing the best job in the world with all of our volunteers.Â

By the way, I’m rooting for Tennessee tonight because it’s Cliff’s birthday. I think that would be a great gift for him. And, it’s cheap for me.

So, tonight, we’ll cover the coffee bar. I gotta tell you about Brian and Nichole Crick and their team. AMAZING!!! These people can make a slushie like nobody’s business. Our coffee bar area is one of the major areas where we want our guests to feel at home. This whole team completely believes in the XL vision and works very hard to make everyone feel welcome. I truly believe that everyone that comes into their area knows that they are cared for. That’s the whole point. Thanks to Brian, Nichole and the whole team for their servant hearts and their willingness to do whatever it takes to make people feel at home.

Just so you know, there are a ton of people that make XL run smoothly, or close to it, every week. However, two of them are very rarely noticed. Wes Taylor and Chris Holland are the guys that keep the building up and running. I got to XL at 8:15 this morning and Chris was already pulling up to fix an issue we had Sunday night. I’m sure Wes is already out working on something else. They NEVER STOP! These guys are always busy doing the things that no one really notices, but no one else wants to do. It is a huge blessing to have them on the team. Trust me, without them, nothing would flush…

Thanks to Wes and Chris for having the heart to serve others behind the scenes so the people can connect with the God that created them.

So, I was talking to my friend Don today from Canada. He can’t really make the trip to XL every week, but he keeps up with us on line. He made a very interesting statement to me today. He was encouraging me with how much he loves XL, even from long distance, and then says “You must really have a great team”. All I could say is “Yes, I do!” He reminded me of how blessed I am to work with the XL Team and all the other great volunteers that God has brought our way. So, I figured I’d take a couple of days and brag about them.Â

Our Lead Team is made up of James Wisener, Gina Scurlock, and Jason Alford. These are three of the most awesome people that I have ever had the priveledge of working with. They completely get the vision of XL and are commited to making it happen. I truly believe that God put this team together and has called us to do something really crazy for His Kingdom. I know without a doubt that I could not do what God calls me to do without them. Thanks to God for this team.

Keep checking in. I’ll be bragging on the rest of the team as we go along.
